  • Visiting the Ontario Science Centre as a twenty-four year old has really forced to realize how much living in Toronto has killed my soul and extinguished my zest for life. This place is meant for education, and fun. I couldn't acheive either here. My first visit was with my Grade four class of Frankland Elementary. I spent the first hour having the time of my life, and the next three sitting at the 'Lost Kids" area waiting for a scoulding from my heavily worried teacher. I couldn't speak English well at the time, so like an idiot I sat there doing absolutely nothing but looking at other older girls. I didn't even have a Tomagachi to kill time because I was too poor. Fifteen years later, I took Sasa--a girl whom I at the middle of our date I realized I didn't want to date her--here for our first and final date. The architecture of the science centre is very unique, and the real-estate is prime. Set within a revine, which of course has a lot of trees...and trees are good, because they raise land value. Also they are pretty. On weekends, the line of cars waiting to enter the parking lot is simply a bad dream. But once you are parked, the magic (or science) of the place begins to unravile with each step taken. Girls and boys of all ages sprawling across the entire establishment. I forget how much a ticket here costs, but that's always a good thing. I'm not sure how to explain the exhibitions, just that they are very interactive, educational, and good clean fun. Except that box which once opened, a manniquin head sneezes on you. Pure gag! There's a fake jungle which is humid beyond my tolerance, and a cave which is a hazard if you're my height. This is all good fun, and an excellent place to take kids under the age of 12. You know, before they start dying their hair purple and discover bands that encourages self mutilation, but I'm sure there's something here for those kids as well. For me, It was not as I hoped. It's simply not age appropriate anymore, or perhaps it was the pressure I felt from Sasa. It was as if I bought the transformer shelved next to the Malibu Stacy, went home, opened the package, and realized I wanted the Malibu Stacy instead. Not saying Sasa has much in common with a transformer...or that I actually want a Malibu Stacy.....okay bad example! The Science Centre is a much better alternative to Wonderland to Entertain your kids for a day. It's closer for city dweller, it's more economical, the lines are shorter, it's hardly effected by weather conditions, and offers just as much as snot slinging screaming kids. It's definitely a magical place for kids....but don't tell anyone working there I used the M word.
