  • I've done my own yard for years except for a local guy who would do my aerating and seed/ fertilizer for about $140. He was good and very friendly and thorough. But we moved and got a bigger yard, so I thought I would see if I could find a service to handle the seasonal needs - especially the aerating. Top turf was recommended when we moved here, so I gave them a call. Price was around what I expected for the service, so I let them handle aeration, seeding and fertilizing --- or so I thought. They sent three guys out and they seemed to do a thorough core aeration and seeding, but I couldn't tell if they fertilized. I checked around the yard, but there was no sign of fertilizing. You need to fertilize in the fall, and especially when you put down new seed, right? So I called them back and, to my surprise, they did not apply fertilizer. They charged me twice what I used to pay a neighborhood guy to do, albeit on a slightly larger lawn, and no fertilizer? A $25 bag from the store would cover my needs, and that wasn't part of the service? Very odd. Turns out it's EXTRA to get fertilizer with your newly planted seed. And what a mess! Seed all over my driveway and all over the sidewalk. Chunks of clay and soil all over the place from the aerator. And nobody even bothered to sweep it up, or sweep the seed back onto the lawn? Three guys came out to do the job, and nobody had time to at least sweep all the extra seed back onto the lawn? How about a leaf blower? Even faster! I had wanted to avoid going to Lowes, but after having to get my own fertilizer, I could just as easily have purchased my own seed and done the job myself considering the time I spent cleaning up after these "lawn pros" were finished. I can't wait until the spring so I can NOT call Top Turf back again and I can call the guy from my old neighborhood to come out and do a better job and save me (at least) $100. (By the way, I'm usually better at checking up on companies I have come out to do work around the house, but I didn't with these guys. I wish I had --- a quick check with BBB and you might be amazed how many complaints they have. I wish I had checked.)
