A little over a month ago we had our complete system replaced. It was 14 years old and still working fine but we are pro-active and didn't want to deal with a major meltdown in the middle of summer. Plus we felt we would get a much better install if the installers were working in a pleasant climate in the attic. We got six bids. Air Supply was $2K higher than the lowest bid but the sales rep made a convincing argument and you get nervous when a bid is that much lower than the rest.
So why one star? We were quoted in the contract a seer 15 unit. I was not aware of a seer 15 but assumed we would get a top of the line seer 14. What we got was one step above the lowest grade seer 14. It took 3 guys 3 hours to do the AC/furnace swap out. In our old house it took a different company 5 hours to do the same. There was unused and old removed pieces left in the attic. The plenum support only touches on one corner. And 10 days later there was a loud vibration coming through the ceiling in the living room. I went into the attic and took care of these problems. We were promised a new thermostat. What they installed was a simple basic non programmable that you can buy on amazon for $50. I was literally removing that thermostat and putting our old programmable back up before the installer drove away. A good programmable thermostat is what, $100 to $150? And when the attic access trim was reinstalled it was shoddy compared to the last time we replaced a system by another company. Not as big an issue as the access is in the walk in closet.
This company seems to have an excellent reputation for repairs of existing units. And it still remains to be seen if what was installed is dependable. But I have a hard time believing I could have spent $2K less and been as unhappy as I am right now.
