Troon monument is my favorite course in the Scottsdale area. It's a true desert mountain course with breathtaking vistas and abundance of wildlife you don't see in the city of Scottdale (more than just rattlesnakes, may see deer, javelinas and bobcats as well). The fairways are lush with numerous elevation changes and the course is set up to be playable for the higher handicap golfer while remaining challenging for the low handicapper. The greens are almost always in great shape and aren't at all glassy like so many greens are when the heat starts. They stagger tee times so that you aren't right on someone's heels, nor is anyone right on your heels throughout the round. My only complaint is the price...if you play the course when it is cool enough outside to really enjoy it, you're probably paying $200+ per round. It's hard to justify more than once in a great while.
