  • I will NEVER seek treatment or recommend this facility to anyone. On occasion, I awaken with severe migraine headaches that cause vomiting and won't stop without medical intervention. Because it happens in my sleep and I awaken needing to vomit over and over again, I can't keep medicine down to treat the headache. My daughter drove me to three urgent cares that showed "open" on their websites, but they were all closed due to it being Christmas Eve. I didn't want to go to the ER. My situation wasn't life threatening, but I did need care. We ended up at Dignity Health ER ("dignity" is an oxymoron for this facility). The waiting room/time was fine. The nurse who began assessing me was perfectly fine. The doctor, Andrew Brainard, was a real ass. I explained my history and my current situation and asked him not to give me narcotics but, Zomig or aspirin, Tylenol, and caffeine (basically Excedrin) is what works. I also needed Zofran or phenergan, anti-emetic medicine to stop the vomiting. He proceeded to lecture me about narcotic abuse. What the hell! Listen much? He did a very lazy general exam and pretended to inspect my throat and said it was clear. Because he was an ass, I laughed under my breath because the way he "examined" my throat wouldn't have actually yielded a visual of my throat. Also, multiple vomiting episodes would not yield a "clear" throat. He made the motion again just as half-assed as the first time and proceeded to tell me that HE was the doctor. Can you say burned out and lazy? I was a paramedic for the City of San Diego and know just a tad about listening to a patient's chief complaint, examining, and treating accordingly. My husband has also been an ER/Trauma/OR nurse for 31 years! The nurse started an IV and treated me for the vomiting and the headache. The vomiting stopped, but the headache continued. The "doctor" never reassessed whether the treatment he ordered worked or not. I have no idea what he gave me. When the nurse was removing my IV to send me home, I asked if I could get a prescription for nausea in case it happened again. The doctor had the nurse ask me which type of medicine I wanted, and I gave her that information. She came back to me laughing saying the doctor told her he knew I was an odd one! Real professional, doc. My daughter took me home; I was able to take Excedrin and keep it down, and my headache went away. I just needed something to keep me from throwing up the medicine. I was going to followup with Dignity Health about the doc, but didn't want to hassle with it. Why am I writing this review when my visit was 6 months ago? Yesterday I got a summary of charges for $4,155 ($1194.00 for the IV). I have insurance, but that's not an appropriate charge for the treatment I received. Half-assed exam. Half-assed treatment (still had migraine headache). Condescending, unprofessional doctor. In my opinion, Andrew Brainard, and Dignity Health ER in Surprise, AZ are terrible with treatment and have outrageous charges. It is a glorified urgent care, in fact, Banner Urgent Care is far superior. If you need an urgent care, try Banner Urgent Care at 13901 W Meeker Blvd, Sun City West, AZ 85375 623-465-6435. I took my son there for strep and dehydration on a Sunday a few months back. He was treated professionally and with compassion. The Nurse Practitioner was excellent.
