  • Alright Guailo, calm down a bit with all the reviews about this place being the Almighty Second Coming. Y'all need to just take a moment and breathe. So I've been here twice now, and this place is a solid restaurant. I've gotten many separate dishes on each visit in order to sample them and see what all the hubbub is about. Everything that I tried was really tasty, with food ranging from three to five stars each. A couple of things to take note of: the Chongqi chicken wings are chopped into small boney pieces which have to be gnawed on in order to coax the meat away, but the meat and the firecracker string of chilis on the plate are definitely tasty. Also, the lamb on bone is likewise a bit of a chore- unless you're an accomplished nibbler you'd be better off sticking to some of the meatier dishes. Now, y'all need to realize that although this place is quite the sensation in Tempe, it's HARDLY unique within the Valley. There was a handful of excellent Chinese restaurants with authentic offerings for y'all to try, now that you've learned that Panda Express is to Chinese cuisine what Taco Bell is to Mexican cuisine. All that stuff that you grew up eating in strip-malls and delivered by Golden Happy Fortune Lucky Dragon Palace House is Americanized Chinese food (or as one restaurant has the cojones to call it: 'New York style'). The good people of China have been working on their food for a LONG time, and just because you've discovered how good the Lettuce Wraps at PF Changs are, there's still a LOT of stuff that isn't commonly offered because most Guai-lo are too squeamish to try it. So by all means, come here and eat- eat ravenously and broadly through all of their offerings. But stop it with all of the reviews about how this place is the only authentic Chinese restaurant in the Valley. Maybe in Tempe, but Mesa and Chandler have quite a few wonderful places on Alma School and Dobson. If you want to learn more, then read some of my other reviews on them. And welcome to the bold new world of good Chinese food! Did you know that there are actually different areas and cuisines within China? Sichuan, Chengdu, Hunan, and Chongqi to name a few... most restaurants don't limit to just one regional cuisine, but most will specialize. Also, for those of you referring to the 'spicy bite of Sichuan peppercorns', you need to understand that the 'spicy' part comes from the chilis- NOT the peppercorns. The peppercorns will numb and tingle to offset the spiciness. Just sayin'. Profuse apologies for the condescending tone of this review- y'all just need to realize that although the food here is absolutely beyond reproach, it is hardly unique in it's wonderfulness.
