Unfortunately, my experience at Rula Bula was not very good. I came here with a large group, about 15 of us for dinner. We were at a conference at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel next door. Rula Bula was very convenient to the hotel.
The coordinator of the dinner made a reservation, and the restaurant was able to accommodate our group and one or two other large groups. So, space was not a problem.
As happens many times with big groups, service is challenging. Things started off fine with water being served and drink orders. The difficulty began when the drinks were delivered. The server could not remember who ordered what. We had to do a lot of reminding about out orders. This persisted throughout the meal.
I ordered the corned beef and cabbage - a traditional Irish staple that should have been really good. It wasn't.
The meal came with a modest amount of corned beef and cabbage. Most of the plate was take up by boiled potatoes and carrots. The veggies tasted ok, but there were a lot of them. The corned beef was not anything special. In fact, it was clear that it had been reheated because there were some dry burnt pieces. There was very little cabbage in my serving. The cabbage that was there was mediocre at best.
Corned beef and cabbage is one of my favorite meals. What I got at Rula Bula was a big disappointment for me.
Others in my group said their meals were ok. The delivery of the meals was an issue too because the person sitting next to me received her meal a good 15 minutes after I received my meal.
Positives were that the restaurant was willing to give all of us separate checks, and the server was very friendly. Too bad the food and delivery did not measure up.
