| - High design. Low cuisine. And I'm okay with that.
I don't think I've ever seen a fancier spot to get burgers, wings, and fries. And if that's what you're into, I think you can learn from my group's not-so-great experience and have a solid meal.
Burgers. Specifically, their specialty burgers. I had the au poivre burger, because I thought the addition of blue cheese and bacon in the au poivre II might be gilding the lily. But I think this place is all about gilding the lily, so don't be afraid to go for the gusto.
The waiter was very clear about the kitchen's definitions of rare, medium rare, and medium. I ordered the one with the warm red center, not the pink red center, and certainly not the one that was half pink and half brown.
What's interesting about this place is that they slice the burgers in the kitchen, and despite being able to clearly see the au poivre burger was brown all the way though, someone still decided to send it out to me at the table.
When I made a comment, they were very apologetic, and speedy about bringing me a replacement. Still, I hate sending back food.
Let's focus on the positive.
The Hell's Fire Chips were delicious. I loved that they came with extra hot sauce on the side.
The Water Chestnuts wrapped in Nueske's bacon are fab.
The local beer list has a lot of good choices, and it's fun to try the regional brews when in a new town. Two blonde ales on the menu? Loved that. Blonde ale and burgers is my jam.
I was also a fan of the buffalo-blue cheese dip that came with the fries, and they were kind enough to bring me an additional side of it.
Other learnings?
Stick to beer instead of their oversized martinis. Large martinis get warm, unless you drink them quickly. And if you drink these quickly, you'll end up on the floor.
The menu says to eat dessert first. Maybe we should have listened. The key lime tart sounded fantastic.
Stay away from the bonfire chicken. It came highly recommended, but it wasn't anything special.
After looking at some of the other pics on Yelp, I kind of regret not ordering the grilled vegetables with jumbo shrimp.
Find a friend who has the same taste in burgers and split one. Then you may have room to share an app and split a dessert. Serving sizes are large.
It actually seems like everything in AZ is large. Except for the people. The people look really fit. It also seems like they spend a lot of time in cars, so I have no idea how they do it. Maybe it's the heat?
