The CN Tower in Toronto is the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere. We went to the observation deck which if I am not mistaken is not as high as the Willis (Sears) Tower Skydeck in Chicago even though the building itself is taller. The view from the observation deck was quite good as you can see the surrounding city and Lake Ontario. I found it very similar to what we saw in Chicago, and considerably better than the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. We were able to go outside and the deck was fenced in, which was a good thing because it was extremely windy and blew off the sunglasses of a man who was up there at the same time and I had to hold onto both my hat and camera bag that was around my neck.
For an additional fee you could go to the Skypod which is higher up but that wasn't part of the package from our tour and we likely wouldn't have had time anyway.
There is a glass floor you can stand on which may be a thrill if you have a fear of heights but you can basically see the legs of the tower which isn't quite the view of the Willis Tower Skydeck Ledge which is right over a busy street. It didn't help either that it was really crowded and people were just sitting on it which made experiencing this part difficult.
While it didn't take very long to get to the top, there was a 20-minute plus wait to get back down and this was a little disconcerting as we were on a tour and were concerned that our bus was going to leave without us. Fortunately we had time to spare and explored the very cramped gift shop at street level. Our admission tickets had a coupon for $1 off any purchase and we forgot to use them.
The CN Tower is right next to the Rogers Centre which is the Toronto Blue Jays baseball stadium but the retractable roof was closed so the view from
above wasn't as interesting as I had hoped.
