| - Back when this place was owned and operated as Brian's Beach Sushi (then later as Sushi Freak), the food quality was superb and portioned accordingly. Nowadays, despite the good service, the food quality and portions is merely but a shadow of its former self. And at the end of the day, you always judge a restaurant by the food they serve not just by how it's served. We always ordered the limited quantity sashimi roll, tuna carpaccio, uni and sweet shrimp sushi. I say limited because despite the place being ALYCE, these items can only be ordered once--and that's fine as long as the portions are good. The thing is, now they have decided to make the sashimi roll half the size (for comparison, the roll slices were dollar-sized before and now they are quarter-sized), the tuna carpaccio plate went from a foot-long serving plate to a small petri dish, and the same downsizing goes with everything else compared to what it was when Brian ran the place. It's understandable if you reduced the price and thus reduced your portions to stay profitable, but I rather would pay more than get skimped on. In any case, I suppose there are other better options out there and we'll be going less and less to this place if they continue the downward trend of lesser quality (and OMG they rice-pack their sushi topped disproportionately with teeny fish!).
