The staff is friendly enough at this Pep Boys, however the damaged products and their commitment to stand by their work left a bad taste in my mouth.
Just over a year ago I needed a new battery in my car. I went to Pep Boys because they would physically change it for free, while charging the same amount for the battery as other auto stores. That transaction went well.
Then when my mom needed a battery for her car we went back to Pep Boys. She had a $15 off coupon which they tried not to validate, but finally accepted it. So far, so good.
Jump to a year later: My car battery died. Now I understand this is Las Vegas and car batteries die quickly, however my previous battery lasted for almost 5 years and this one only a year and a half! AAA came out to jump me and said it was a bad cell. I went straight to Pep Boys. Their test showed my battery was fine and they had no idea why my car wouldn't start and refused to change the battery. The very next morning, my car was dead.
This time when I went back to Pep Boys (after calling AAA again and getting my kids to school late) they agreed that my battery was bad and try to charge me $15 AFTER they had changed it. I was surprised because I had expected it to be completely free--like when I purchased it. They argued and said their policy changed. Nobody mentioned that when I signed in at the front. After some choice words about having to bring my car in TWICE and the lack of communication about the policy, the manager took it off. Had I not complained, I would've had to pay--that's not good customer service.
Now yesterday, my moms car battery died. Her battery only lasted a year and three months! I told her to take it straight to Pep Boys and not to let them charge her for changing it or anything else. Granted my mom is 70 years old so she didn't want to argue so they not only charged her the $15 to change it--they also charged her for the $15 coupon she had previously!! $30 because they sold her a bad battery! :(
So because PEP BOYS sold us bad batteries, it cost us time and the headache of having to deal with a company that does not stand by the products and service they originally promised. We will not be returning.
