  • Let me preface this Yelp review with one important statement: I've never had actual ribs from Desperados. I'm a fan of pulled pork, so I can't speak for the ribs. But on that note, every year at the rib off held in Berea, Ohio, I head straight for Desperados to get the one, the only, psycho sandwich. In fact, the one year I lived outside of Cleveland, I drove 150 miles just so I could have a ... okay two, psycho sandwiches. What is it you ask? Half pulled pork and half pulled brisket. Sounds simple right? Sounds maybe... rather unimpressive? On the surface, it might be. I mean meat is meat, right? I don't know if they do special tricks, smoking, etc., but all I can say is I am a devoted fan of this sandwich to the point of putting it on any "best sandwiches I ever ate" list. One caveat which is rather common sense - if you're going to the rib off to try this or to a rib off period to try any vendor - do NOT judge quality if you go there first thing after they open the gates. We did once, and even this divine sandwich suffered from lack of that slow, soaking cook in the juices. Maybe that's the experience with some of the negative rib reviews. We went the next day (yes two days in a row for that sandwich, please?!) later on in the day and it was much better and oh so yummily familiar to our tastebuds and tummies.
