  • I lived in San Valiente for two years as a student from The Art Institute (located a block away). Honestly, this is a very nice complex (for the area it's in). Here's a quick breakdown: Management/Maintenance: Great bunch of people. I've read the reviews from some other residents, and never experienced anything negative like they have. Problems were usually solved/fixed within 24 hours and the front office was extremely friendly. Sometimes maintenance can get a little overloaded with work, and it can take 2-3 days for them to reach your apartment. If it's a big issue (like no fridge or A/C) they'll put you on the top of the list. Grounds: the complex is "luxury" when you compare it to the neighborhood it's in, but in general, it's a fairly average stucco Valley apartment complex. The gates...are broken a lot. Eventually, I think the front office got tired of fixing them EVERY week (literally, EVERY week) so they left them broken for longer. It's the residents fault to be honest. I've seen several occasions when people have rammed into the gates with their cars because their either impatient, or try and race into a side gate because they don't want to enter a code and drive a couple extra feet. Other than the gates, everything is kept up very nice. The pools were cleaned SEVERAL times (sometimes even drained and re-filled) throughout the year because for some odd reason...they got filthy really quick. But, they were always cleaned within a few days. Safety: this is where it gets a little...scary. The surrounding area is just not the best part of town, so I've had friends who had their cars stolen, and one even had his car broken into and cellphone stolen. I also had a friend who's back window was busted and a bunch of stuff in her car (mostly art supplies for school) was stolen. Just, lock your vehicles and don't leave any valuables in the car. It's just part of living in the inner(ish) part of the city. Ask any Valley resident and they'll tell you; Sunnyslope/MetroCenter isn't the safest part of town. Also, there are garages you can rent to park your car if you REALLY want some extra security. And I should also mention: the security guys are always walking around at night, checking out the place. But it's a big complex, so they can only cover so much at a time. Parking: parking is crazy. It's usually a mad rush for the open spots, and that's simply because most apartments have 2 or 3 cars. Residents: Sal Val is a HUGE blend of cultures and ages. You have some older residents, a lot of Eastern Indian residents (who are quiet and VERY nice),quite a few young families, and a large amount of college students. Don't worry, the college students here are not as extreme as your typical party-hardy stereotypes. Some were loud every so often, but they were taken care of by the college or security. Most of the college students though, come from The Art Institute: Art & Design students are generally pretty quiet. I know...because I was one of them. :) I liked my peace and quiet, and so did a lot of other students. Overall, I was pleased with this place and the only reason I left is because I wanted to move to a safer neighborhood. I would recommend San Val if you don't mind having some crazies outside the apartment walls and can handle the MetroCenter area.
