  • This review is 3 stars because overall, the hotel is really just okay, there were some nice touches but we won't be staying here again. Not from the area, we pulled up to the hotel not sure if there was valet, street parking, a garage...it was confusing. There were 4 people (2 guys, 2 girls) standing in the entrance way of the hotel who were dressed to look like they worked there, but we weren't sure, they were just arguing with one another. From the car we could tell there was some sort of drama happening, it made us uncomfortable but we weren't certain that they were employees so we sat in our car for a moment waiting to see if one was a valet ... nothing. We got out of the car and had to excuse ourselves through them to make our way in to the lobby. At this point, hearing their conversation it was clear they were employees - not a good first impression. The girl who checked us in was helpful, and polite. We were happy to have her check us in because the other 2 ladies standing at the counter did not seem as if they wanted to be bothered. She told us there was a valet but we couldn't locate a person working this role so we decided to park the car ourselves in the garage. *There is no advantage in parking it yourself, pay the valet fee if you stay here and they actually have someone working. One elevator was out of order, so we did have long wait times when coming in and leaving the hotel. The design to our room was definitely modern, the hardwood floors and orange/white accents add a feeling of luxury, but the room was so small. I would much rather stay at a less hip hotel that gives you more room. The privacy button on the door was cool, reminded me of staying at the Ritz Carlton, and the buttons to control lights throughout the room and bathroom is a nice touch, but the heated bathroom floors did not work, and when the bathroom light is on it lights up the whole bedroom. Our Keurig still had a K cup in it from the previous occupants, which put a bad taste in my mouth, but otherwise the room was clean. Staying in the hotel you have access to the rooftop pool and bar - wow have I never felt so unwanted in my life when we went up to check the area out. We were stared at by every person working there and the few that were enjoying cocktails. We did not use the pool and opted not to spend $20/drink after already feeling uncomfortable enough after a few minutes and decided to leave. Coming back from dinner on a Sunday night there was a line outside of the hotel with people trying to get up to the rooftop bar. Clearly not dressed for the club, we were stopped by 3 bouncers in the lobby where we had to explain we were trying to get to our hotel room. They were kind enough to let us ride up on our own, and not have to share with the club goers, that was appreciated. One really cool thing was that we did have a delivery on our anniversary, where the hotel gave us a bottle of champagne and macaroons to celebrate - this was a really nice touch of going the extra mile, after nearly every other interaction with staff made us feel as if we didn't belong, we greatly appreciated this. Although, they did spell our last name wrong, which is interesting considering they could have looked up the reservation, and Green is not hard to spell, but that's being nit picky at something they went above and beyond to do for us. If you get a good enough deal, I'd recommend this hotel but there are certainly better places to stay in Toronto, unless you are into the club scene, super modern design, and drama.
