  • In all honesty, I have been debating whether or not to write a review for Hair by Miranda - since it's definitely a very small local business. But, I really find the Yelp reviews were and is still misleading. I found Hair by Miranda through yelp as I saw it was getting very popular as it made the beauty top list. Seeing all the raving 5 star reviews, I just had to give it a visit. Plus, yelp has never done me wrong before...except this time. I visited Miranda over a year ago in her home's basement. It was my first visit and it's going to be my last. I knew what I was getting myself into - so, I didn't have a huge expectation for a fancy place; the reviews did prepare me for that. Once I got to the front of her house, her front door was open. I didn't know whether or not to just enter or just find a doorbell...but wait, she doesn't have a doorbell. I just awkwardly stood in front of her house for 5-10 minutes, until she came upstairs from the basement to get something and told me to come in. Walked through her hallway, saw all her friendly animals, and walked down to her basement. She was already working on a client, so I was asked to take a seat on her couch - but, the couch had her personal things lying on it (clothes, hangers, jackets,etc.). I didn't exactly know where I should sit without sitting on something. I guess, she realized that there were no seatable area on the couch, so she came over and moved some things around. I waited for approximately 20 minutes as she was finishing up with dying the other client's hair. Once I got onto the seat, I told her how I needed more layers and pretty much to thin out my thick hair. All she said was "okay" and directed me over to the next room where the hair sink is. No conversation. Quick wash and then back over to the seat. She just used a razor type of tool and trimmed the top layer of my hair. The bottom half of my hair was UNTOUCHED - not even a trim! When I brought it up to her, she just said that I asked for layers, so she's giving me layers. Before she finished, she did use some hemp products on me as hair treatment. Overall, this haircut is not worth the expensive price she charges, even with a 20% off student discount. With the fast and terrible hair cut, I feel like I could have just paid $15 at topcuts and got the same type of fast service. It was an awkward experience and the haircut literally lasted no longer than 30 minutes. Not to mention, I have lots of hair and 30 minutes for a haircut is pretty unheard for me usually. I felt the wait for my turn was longer than the actual cut itself. Seriously sad that these reviews misled me and ended up with a disappointing cut.
