| - I'm a small-time petty gambler, but I do love my reel slots. So when friends recommended going to Aliante for dinner and then spending a bit of time at the casino, they didn't have to break my arm to get me to agree. It would be the first time there for us.
The casino was built originally as a Station Casino, but became independent when Station dumped it during the Great Recession. Whoo-hoo, we were going to be able to sign up for a new card, and probably get some free play. I love free play.
It's a very nice atmosphere, sort of like Red Rock, but much quieter, less crowded, and a tad less glitzy. Signup was easy, with no crowds at the Rewards booth on a Saturday night.
My husband and I each got $3 in free play. It was the lowest we could have gotten when we selected a card on the kiosk machine - did they know what low rollers we are? However, my 20-cent bets had me leaving the casino $25 richer; I more than doubled my money. The real winner was Herb, who never puts in more than $1 and hits that button 100 times. Yes, you read that right: a penny at a time. He had a 700% return on his money! Don't try this - it only works for him, and almost every time. (His, ahem, method once won us $100 gift card when it tickled Jimmy Kimmel's funny bone when we saw his show in L.A., but that's a story for another time. Ask me).
Between dinner at the Salted Lime - soon to be reviewed - and the casino, it was a very nice evening.
