| - Russ is very unprofessional when it comes to taking care of and owning up to work that was poorly done.. On the first visit I had to remind his team to fertilize a large dying palm that they skipped (the main reason I needed tree care). Upon coming home from work, I notice they also skipped skimming three large palms that was a about half of the work that I was billed for. There was a lot of damage to cables, wall of guest house, and gate henge was torn out of concrete all on the back opening in the alley. I didn't notice this until 2 days later, taking out the trash (no one ever owned up to or mentioned this). Let me be clear that the gate is older and may have bee loose but was fully intact with six bolts (took some serious force to move it at all).
I had explained all this to Russ and he said hold on to the check and he will have his guys come out to finish the job (like it was a normal part of their business and didn't ask any questions about the damage). He didn't know when they could come back out and said he would get back to me when he got into the office.. Didn't hear from him and two days later a couple of his guys come randomly knocking early in the morning on my door. I was headed off to work and Russ knows that I have to be there when they are doing the work because of my dog will get out if they have the gate open. I asked if they could please let me know of a time that works best for them and I can work it into my schedule. They said they will have to let Russ know. Didn't hear back for another couple days, called and Russ again acted like there was no urgency to get it done and didn't feel he was responsible for any damage with many excuses to follow (without ever coming to look at it). Mentioned they were backed up due to monsoons. He again mentions "I'll have my crew come out one of these mornings..." I explained again that I need some sort of time and day set. He said ok, and will let me know that day..
1week later, i call the 'office' (which is actually his house, makes sense now). It's impossible to get ahold of him directly. Every time you call, you have to answer the same 5 questions as if you are getting a new quote. About another week goes by, call, he calls me back.. Acts as if nothing is wrong and says "I will have the guys come out tomorrow!". I explain that I am not pleased with the service and would like to negotiate price for what they have done and damage that was caused. Russ continues to talk over me and denies EVERYTHING. He doesn't ever offer to come look at the damage or simply apologize for the job never getting done. Continues to throw out lies on how he continue to calls me and "has come banging on my door on several occasions", but then throws in an excuse here and there about the monsoons.. Instead of owning up to it and taking any responsibility for his business. He asked me what I think would be fair and I offered to pay him $200 for the Palm trimming from the original $400, since less than half of it was done and not to mention all the other mess. He begins yelling and accusing me for 'falsely accusing' him! Doesn't let me get a word in and continues to yell the whole time.. He says he would 'bring' it down to $300 for the work as is and refuses to address anything else. Says that's generous of him bringing down the price! I hang up since he wouldn't stop rambling/yelling. I mailed my $300 just to be done with this guy. This deserves to be reported to the BBB, or something like 3 on Your Side would be perfect:) Hope this at least makes people think twice about using Desert Discount Tree Care & Removal/Russ' home business! For what it's worth... the last time I wrote a negative review was over 10 years ago and have only written like 3 ever!
