  • After taking a little too much time after the move to find a dentist, I decided to go to Friendly Dental of Ballantyne (StoneCrest) to do a cleaning and see how much damage I had done to my teeth. I arrived a couple minutes early, filled out some paperwork, and waited to be called. As a normal new patient, I had my x-rays and a dental assistant (?) take a quick look at my teeth. After waiting about 5-10 minutes, I finally saw the dentist, Dr. Heidenreich. He was very friendly, made some small talk, and briefly (about 30 seconds) looked at my mouth. One thing that he did that I really enjoyed (and have never experienced with another dentist) is he actually walked me through the x-rays and showed me the cavities and problem areas. I've had dentists tell me which teeth, but I've never been able to visually see the x-rays, which is something that I really liked to be able to see the teeth and the visual of the cavity. He was really friendly, and seemed very present and willing to answer my questions. After he was done, the receptionist came up to me and asked if I wanted to wait another 30(!) minutes for the hygienist. I had already been at the dentist for 50 minutes, and now I had to wait another 30 minutes just to see the hygienist?! That was definitely frustrating and seemed odd, as the last 28 years I had gone to the dentist I always saw the hygienist first so that they could clean my teeth before the dentist. Since I had to go back to work, I rescheduled for another day. I've definitely had to wait before at the dentist, but I've never had such a lag time for waiting for the hygienist. When I brought up that I needed to go to work, the receptionist made a comment that first time appointments are typically 1 1/2 hours, which I guess is fair.... but it shouldn't be because you had to wait for an additional 30 minutes just to have your teeth cleaned (which was the whole point of the appointment. Definitely good and bad areas here to summarize- liked the engagement with the dentist, the dental staff were friendly, but I was frustrated with the wait for the cleaning and the receptionist seemed unapologetic. I have my cleaning and filings soon, so I'll definitely update if I'm impressed with this practice going forward.
