I had really high hopes for this show. I had seen Absinthe and I enjoyed it, but the ticket wasn't cheap. So when I saw this show from the creators of Absinthe advertise on Facebook with a local discount of $30 I made sure to jump on it, not really knowing what to expect beyond "from the people who created Absinthe". I wanted to say I loved it and it was an amazing value but ... I think I just left a little underwhelmed.
The best way to describe this show is Rocky Horror in Space. It was all over the place and at times I don't know if it really knew what it wanted to be. There are some things I liked about the show - like the various circus acts they had. But I felt like there wasn't enough of it in the show, like Absinthe had. It wasn't the non-stop excitement I was expecting. I liked the live band and some of the characters on the show (like the robot). Unfortunately, there were several skits that went on a little too long and didn't make a lot of sense. We spent a lot of time with Miss Uranus - a transgender singing act - and I found myself getting bored since she had so many songs. There was also a skit with a doctor and a stripper turned nurse that just dragged on too long and didn't seem to have much of a point. Overall I think the show revolved too much around "overt sexual humor" when I felt it could have been more subtle and funnier.
Another gripe I had was with the seating of the show. I got the 4th row thinking that would be great but because of where the seats were, I found myself wishing I had sat further back where the seats were elevated. Frequently I had to stand up or look to the side to try to see the action on stage. If they would have elevated the stage more it probably wouldn't have been such an issue. If you're short like me, I'd actually recommend either sitting front row or further back.
Another word of warning - the drink prices are outrageous. Yeah, I know this is Vegas and the Strip, but yikes! $24 for a drink is asking for a lot. I think if they lowered their drink prices by $5 it would help a lot.
Overall this show has potential, but it's no Absinthe. It's still in its preview mode so hopefully it will get better. They are active about soliciting feedback so obviously, they care how the show does.
