| - After being out all morning, I got home in the afternoon only to discover that my refrigerator had stopped cooling/freezing and there was a huge puddle of water on the floor from the freezer defrosting. FDA protocols for food safety say that freezer temp should be 0F and the refrigerator temp should be 40F or less. The freezer temp read 44F and the refrigerator read 54F, which was very bad.
I called GE, the manufacturer of my refrigerator, however, they couldn't come out until the following afternoon. I called a few local companies and finally found Appliance Repair Experts. While they normally don't do emergency service, they had a technician in the area and they told me that he could be there between 3:30pm (when I called) and 5pm. The tech called me 10 minutes later and was at the house by 4:00m. Jeff, the technician, was friendly, professional and had a neat appearance. He was also good with my dogs. He installed the new part, an OEM/genuine GE inverter assembly compressor mount in less than 30 minutes.
Pros:
- Professional, clean, friendly technician
- Same day, quick repair
- Part available
- $20 coupon from their web site for any repair
- Waived the $49.95 trip fee since the tech did the repair
Cons:
- Expensive part - $279.80 (saw online prices ranging from $211.59, $237.77, $245, etc.), but less than expensive than the compressor going out, which the tech told me would have been around $2100
- Expensive labor cost - $160 - I saw where the President of the company replied to Ronni L and said "we have one flat rate which should have been $120". Not sure if I was charged $160 because it was same day, however, I wasn't told it would cost extra.
We have to wait 10-12 hours for the refrigerator temps to stabilize and had to throw out half of our food, however, since it was same day service, we were able to save half of our food. I would've rated them 5 stars, except the cost was higher than I thought it would be for 20 minutes of service.
