The Future is Abstract
I found a favorite piece in each collection. Alison Sara's "The Nature of Us" features contemporary reimagined objects to depict the lives of women via sculptures, mixed-media works and prints. My favorites are "Weight (2012), Lunarseas: Sea of Serenity (2008), and Sea of Nectar (2008)."
Jordan Casteel's Harlem Notes explores Harlem locals through color. Her ability to build dimension through various hues and textures bring the painted canvases to life - on a "larger than life" scale.
Zun Lee's Father Figure is a beautiful tribute to Black undocumented fatherhood and opposes the stereotypes of the traditional AA father (as poorly reflected in mainstream media). LOVE this tribute!
