| - I am a big fan of Spring Training games. They are so much more fun than the regular season! When my best friend Brian asked me to a game at Cubs Park, I quickly agreed.
This was my first time to the new facility near Mesa Riverview. The park was really nice and well thought out. It had a lot of places to eat inside, including some food trucks. I really wish Portillo's would have some sort of stand there, at the very least. Eating Italian Beef and watching baseball would be amazzzzzinnnngggg.
There were several places to buy your Cubs gear, which I would have perused if I wasn't so focused on the people watching.
My friend guesstimated that most of the people filling the seats were actual out of town Chicagoans, but I can't divulge his reasoning for fear of offending people. After looking around for a split second, I am pretty sure he was right. Of course, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to identify a Chicago accent.
In my eavesdropping, I found the general sentiment was that people seemed to love the park.
One annoyance was that there was almost no Verizon cell phone service in the park. There was definitely no data available. Before you call me out and ask why I needed my phone when I could enjoy baseball, I will say that I wanted to look up something about a particular player that came up in conversation. That and I wanted to check in on Yelp, of course!
Once more things get incorporated into the complex, I think this will be my go to park for Spring Training. I heard they were going to try to bring in The Cubby Bear (AWESOME) and some other Chicago institutions.
Still, I will always be a Bay Area, American League gal. Go A's!
