I have been shopping at Sienna Deli when I moved here in the 80's. They were on Trop and Eastern then. The baker, Mike, made the best Italian breads. Now that Sienna moved across town everything has changed. The bread is more French than Italian (the crust makes the difference). We ordered their classic sub which is more like a lettuce sub now. There was no oil, vinegar or mustard on very dry bread. We also ordered cannolis that ended up smothered in a cheap, waxy chocolate syrup which completely ruined them. I tried scraping the chocolate syrup off but it was too sticky. I added my own oil, vinegar and mustard but only one slice of each meat was invisible to the amount of thick bread. What was once a staple in my household is now a distance memory. Not one of the original staff was there (family run business) so I assume they sold it to people who are not Italian.
