  • I just purchased a used Honda Odyssey from a private seller. The lady spent a TON of money on repairs for this van, most at the dealership. Last major repair was a $4000 valve job (in April of this year). I needed this vehicle to get to doctors appointments and back. I had a tow hitch installed the following morning and we noticed the oil was low 2 qts! Added the oil and the thing smokes like a chimney. I was not happy and called the seller... she was not happy and called the Service manager. He told her he would honor the warranty for me and to bring it in after the holiday. I have yet to contact them. I wanted to start the review process by saying ... "so far so good" I hope they take care of this issue and this ends well for me. I want to believe there are still honorable mechanics and businesses left in this world. If the dealership did the valve job, I thought to myself, there is no way they would have let it leave with a pending problem as bad as its having now. I trust dealership work... Wish me luck! Update: After an hour of trying to reach the service manager, then his manager, I have had no luck. I left a few messages explaining the situation. I figure its the day after a holiday so they must be swamped. Update #2: not only did I get a call back from the service manager, I got a call from the manager of all the service managers! Extremely courteous friendly and professional. They made me feel very comfortable and taken care of on the phone. I explained that I had to have somebody drive the vehicle down and they offered a shuttle service ride home. So far I'm really impressed. I should be getting a call back from the manager within the next few hours today or tomorrow they will be letting me know what they can do for me. It was also implied that if it's something to do with the work that was performed that it would be taken care of and I should be getting the vehicle back Thursday at the latest. Now that's service. Update #3: Not looking good people. When I spoke to the Service manager (and his boss), I explained I needed the van by Friday to make the appointment that I CANNOT miss. I was told then not to worry that I would have it back Thursday at the latest (if they had to repair something). I just now called them and they seemed to have forgotten who I was. Also informed me that another person was my service manager on this (they were unaware of the status) and he would be calling me back later this morning. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but the guy on "it" was the guy who is on the original work order... Looks like I may be talking to my attorney afterall... *Sigh* I really don't need this drama. Stay tuned for the next installment of "What the heck did they fix for $4K that made this worse that before?" It started out very positive and both Steve and Dustin were very friendly... I hope it is just early and they are swamped with work... No one wants to think they are not a priority... I felt like I was intruding (they had me on speaker)... I went into the call all "hey remember me guys lets have more of that fun from the other day!" and I heard crickets and coffee... Was embarrassing having to then explain "I am the guy with the van, with the 1 qt a day habit after you guys did a complete valve job in April... still no "Hey! it's you!" just.. "some other guy will help you now, please step aside" Update #4: Keith (my SM for this issue) said "The rings are bad, it'll be around $4000.00". Dustin (the SM we contacted first) and Steve (the Service Managers Manager) are in contact with Honda USA to try and get the company to help with this issue and cost... since the owner has been a loyal and long term customer. I have not hear anything today and I am hoping this will be resolved by these guys... They seem like a nice group of extremely busy guys. I have not been trying to bug them about it, figure they will let me know when the time is right. I did ask how they could have missed something like the rings (compression differences) when they did the valve job, Keith seemed a little hesitant to answer (actually never really addressed the question come to think about it . I left it alone, did not want to seem like I was interrogating him. We have a major issue that Honda dealer is trying to get resolved... here is where we find out if they take care of the customer or tell me to jump in the lake. RJK
