| - I wanted to love this place. It's a convenient location for me and my friend loves it and takes her 30-pound mixed dog here all the time. Barbara, the day care owner, seems very nice and friendly.
I am drafting this review while watching my 5-month old, 9 pound puppy pace and tremble - by himself - in a reception area. I handed my pup over to Barbara and she quickly put him in this empty area so she could help break up a big dog fight. I totally get that. Though there were 2 bigger guys in that dog area already that were breaking it up.
But now it's been 15 minutes. After the big dog fight was broken up, everyone went back to playing with the big dogs and thoroughly ignoring the small dogs...and forgot all about the wee puppy in the waiting area. He's trembling and sitting by the door without his collar on. The door is unlocked (they lock it around 3 pm), so if someone were to open that, he could bolt and get hit by a car since the door is right up against the parking lot. Paranoid dog mum? Perhaps. But it's common sense. I expect better from a dog-centered facility.
Which brings me to the fact that this is the second offense. My pup went for his evaluation two weeks ago. They have webcams (that's a plus) and I checked in on him from time to time throughout the day. I had to call because my pup and two other dogs were left and forgotten in a hallway barred by a gate for over a half hour. I waited and checked in periodically to see if someone would come get them and let them play in the slightly larger small dog room, but no one came to get them. It seems all their attention is on the big dogs and they pen the little guys in this tiny room. You can't even play a game of fetch with the dogs in that small space.
I am not willing to try this place a third time.
Other things that brought the star rating down for me:
1. The whole place smells like chemicals, most likely from the grooming stations in the front. I'm not necessarily okay with having my dog breathe in those fumes all day long.
2. It's busy, which is a good thing, but there may be too many dogs for them to handle since there is not enough attention and observation going to the small dogs.
3. It's rundown, but *is* a dog grooming/day care place, after all. I do not expect a gorgeous interior from a dog daycare, but I do expect more of an effort.
4. It is $30 per day and goes down to $25 on a package. Everyone else in town starts at $20-25 per day and goes down to as low as $11 on a package. Let it be known, however, that I would gladly pay $30 per day for a truly outstanding day care, but this falls short and does not justify the price.
Sidenote:
The groomer, Jackie, is funny and adorable, and definitely good at what she does. There is also a really sweet guy there named Jesse that clearly loves the dogs, though he sticks more to the big dog area.
