  • Let me start by saying I'm really hoping to update my review in a few months once the business is settled in to 4 or 5 stars. I've been to Crimson twice now-once on a Thursday night and once on a Sunday afternoon. The place itself is very cozy inside like most coffee shops. One thing that was perhaps not thought out well is that their creamer, sugars, etc table is set up in the very back so if you want your drink to go, you go all the way back to prepare it then walk all the way across the shop again to leave. No big deal, just sayin. Now both times I've gone I've ordered their pour over. And also note that both times there were maybe 6-7 other patrons in there already drinking their coffee, no line to order or anything. all of the pour overs have very long names and are derived from other countries, but there's no indication as to whether it's a light, medium, or bold roast. So both times when I placed my order, I simply said which of your pour overs is the darkest because I like dark. The first time, the woman had to ask. No big deal, they had only been open maybe 2-3 weeks at the time. So she recommended one and I got it and my friend got a latte. We both enjoyed our drinks, but they took a good 10-12 minutes to get which was a little on the long side for pretty basic orders with no special requests. The second time I went, the dark pour over I got the previous time was no longer on the menu. So again I just asked the woman taking my order (different woman, btw) what she'd recommend for a dark coffee drinker. She also had to ask and the worker she asked also didn't know. Then she got to a third worker who said they're all more of a medium. Now I'm not crazy picky with my coffee, but I know lots of customers are. So it was strange to me that they have 3 pour overs and they're all medium, because that leaves no option for the light or dark drinkers. regardless, I said okay that's fine what would you recommend then of the three? She laughed and said she didn't know...as I awkwardly stood there basically begging for her to know something about their products. She never did offer a suggestion, just nervously smiled. I finally just chose one at random and ordered two because I was taking one to my husband. My friend ordered a latte and we stood on the side to wait. After about 5 minutes, she came out and said she only had enough of the coffee I ordered to make one coffee. I was a little annoyed because I had already paid and waited 5 minutes with no coffee at all. I said to just make the second one one of their other pour over options. My first coffee came after about 7 minutes, my friends latte in about 2 after that, and my second coffee about 7 or 8 more minutes after that. We ordered to go and I know pour overs take a little more time, but still. By the time I got my coffee for my husband, mine was cold. The quality of the coffee itself has been good both times, but my second visit was after their grand opening and I feel like they need to get with the program fast or a lot of first time visitors will not be making return trips. In my opinion, my two pour overs could've been made at the same time as it was a to-go order and we didn't plan on sitting and hanging out while they took their time to make them. And they definitely had enough machinery to do both at once. While we were waiting, I watched the woman taking orders go to another table and tell them that the coffees they had chosen were also sold out. So that's two more customers who already paid who had to change their orders. They also have a drive through window which makes me curious because unless they only offer the most basic drinks like coffee already brewed, I do not see the drive through being at all time efficient. Even 5+ minutes for a coffee order really defeats the purpose of a drive through, doesn't it? Like I said, I'm hoping things are just getting settled in. But in order to stick around for a while, the workers definitely need to learn their product and step up the speed a bit to a coffee shop pace.
