A refreshing departure from the fine dining scene at Steve Wynn's Encore hotel. This restaurant, adjacent to the casino provides a nice respite from the buzz of gambling and other casino/hotel activities. The menu is upscale enough to give diners great options for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The casual atmosphere allows you to forget that you're in Las Vegas as it is calm and decorated in soothing colors...furniture is comfy and the bar and dining areas are spacious.
We arrived around 9:30pm to grab a light bite after seeing a Cirque du soleil show at the Mandalay Bay hotel. After perusing many menus at the various restaurants in our hotel, we opted for the society cafe. The service is on point, friendly and attentive. We were given two baskets of pretzel rolls which were soft, warm and incredibly fresh. I enjoyed the citrus salad with poached shrimp which was a beautiful medley of julienned radishes and other crunchy veggies like fennel and frisée topped with giant shrimp and served with a side of avocado purée and a citrus vinaigrette. Perfect for this late hour. Others feasted on burgers ranging from turkey and veggie to the signature society burger. Fries were perfectly crisp. The ahi tuna sizzling appetizer was sensational. I had a side of spicy garlic broccolini which was spectacular. Overall, we were pleased with this upscale pub/cafe food. Our friends raved about the watermelon mojitos and I enjoyed a glass of Jordan Chardonnay.
Too full for dessert...but if you leave room, the giant ten layer chocolate cake that sits about 10" high on the plate looks like it could feed 8 people. The sundaes and other sweets featured also looked yummy on their way past our table.
This place is certainly a nice alternative after indulging in so many of the heavier but delicious fine dining establishments in the Wynn/Encore. For us, it hit the spot late night on a Sunday after so much eating and drinking over the weekend.
