| - Having just permanently moved to the valley and taking care of my elderly dad .. I needed to set up his medical care and that includes eye care. I chose Riviera Opticare initially because the location is convenient, they were able to give me an appointment with fairly short notice and they did NOT rush me over the phone (lots of questions) BEFORE I even made the appointment. Turned out, after the appointment & exam, I'm glad I chose them even if they were 20 miles away.
First thought upon entering ... Clean. Then came friendly, not fake and smiley. Comfortable. No one had attitude when he walked around checking out every frame for the heck of it (didn't even have his exam yet) When he was brought back for his exam I noticed how the girl (I wish I noted her name too) took care to walk slowly and keep him in arms length. The exam room was also clean. (clean is big for me, especially with senior citizens. A simple germ can be catastrophic) The doctor was ready to see him, no waiting.
Each step in the exam was explained clearly, and he was asked if he understood or needed further clarity before they continued.
The doctor went over her evaluation & suggestions with me as well, and although my dad was ready to buy reading glasses, distance glasses, sunglasses -- whatever someone would sell him (he's so gullible it's funny) she explained what was necessary and what wasn't. She asked to take a look at the frames he had and suggested that they were in good shape (they're actually only 6 mos old) and that we should think about just having them fill the scrip into the current frames .... I have to say that I was pleased and relieved that I felt so comfortable with the kind, ethical care here. No one was interested in selling me more than he needed. No one pushed him or made him feel rushed (he still wanted to try on every pair anyway)
Patience, kindness, knowledge, great care .... and 5 mins from home? I see other reviews say they're pricey ... Price is also figured by overhead, location, etc. So while they might have more expensive prices than some, it's ALL relative.
But no one pushed us into anything unnecessary and even saved us money. AND I almost forgot ... when we went back to pick up and fit the scrip, I was told I had a refund coming because the insurance paid more than originally expected. They promptly refunded my card. So add honest to the list.
