  • I have read about crossfit on the internet and always wanted to try it. I believe there are several crossfit gyms in Toronto, but CrossFit Toronto was the closest to me and therefore the one I ended up at. Crossfit is basically a continuous workout that consists of purely functional movements - there are absolutely no machines, and the goal is to complete the workout (which is adjusted based on your fitness level) in the shortest amount of time possible. Now, I have never claimed to be a fit guy - I like to consider myself more of an active couch potato. I usually run three times a week but the work out today absolutely ruined me. In order to take classes here, you must complete a one on one (free) introductory session where an instructor will guide you through a work out while giving you tips and explaining the crossfit manifesto (basically, crossfit aims to make you a 'generalist' and not a 'specialist' ). I really enjoyed my session and especially appreciated that the entire thing was very low pressure. In fact, my instructor stressed the fact that you can easily do crossfit at home (or in a playground), but what you get out of joining is the instruction and coaching. In fact, as a member you have the option to meet with a trainer regularly to discuss your goals and other aspects of your life (nutrition, etc). I'm not entirely convinced that crossfit is for me. It's pretty intense and I am probably a little too casual about my level of fitness, but I am planning on at least checking out a proper class. If you are curious about crossfit I would really recommend CrossFit Toronto - especially since they are moving into a much larger location (same neighborhood) with better facilities (their current setup lacks some of the more basic amenities) next month.
