  • Very nice place. I have a class downstairs in the Y (I'm an ASU student). Took me a couple days to get a card because their card machine was broken, but after that, everything was smooth sailing. I walk in, give the person at the front desk my card, and I'm on my way. I go to class in the morning and I lift weights a few hours later. The weight room is nice. Not as big of a selection as I would have hoped, but still, it's good. Two smith machines, one squat rack, two bench press benches, one incline bench press, and a seated OHP bench, along with many accessory work machines and a wall full of dumbbells. There's also a barbell there just for deadlifts, rows, or whatever. There's even a water dispenser right outside of it in case you need to refill your water bottle or something. One thing I was worried about was if they allowed chalk to be used. I've been using chalk for my deadlifts and no one has said anything. The only thing anyone has said to me while using chalk was an employee reminding me to rerack my weights (which I always do.) Just make sure you clean the weights and barbell so there isn't any chalk on them when you're done. The weight room is hardly ever crowded. Plenty of machines to keep people busy. There's a separate cardio room within the weight room; it has a stationary bike, a stairmaster, a treadmill, and a couple pedaling machines (I wouldn't call them bikes). There's also a stretching machine there for you to get loose on (it works wonders for me on squat day). There are also some exercise balls and mats in there. I don't frequent any of the dedicated cardio rooms in the Y, but from what I've seen, there are always treadmills and stationary bikes open, so I would imagine that crowding isn't a problem. As for the (men's) locker room, it's very nice. Clean, neat, orderly. There are plenty of lockers (make sure to bring your own lock). The people there are nice and friendly. There's showers (yes, you do have to shower naked in front of each other but literally no one cares, so don't feel embarrassed), a sauna, bathrooms, and an entrance to the pool. Overall, the place is very nice. I'm gonna enjoy being here during the spring semester!
