  • Before going to CCSC I read the reviews and I must say I was excited and skeptical. I didn't know whether to expect a great time or expect to be treated like I was at boot camp by the evil range officers I read about. Before heading to CCSC my lady and I stopped by Autozone, the manager there assured us we would have a great time. Though we were skeptical of his assurance we found out that he was absolutely correct! We live by the 215 and Flamingo so the drive took us about 20-25 minutes, it was on a Sunday so the drive was relaxing and pleasant with little to no traffic. When you finally arrive you think you're there but they have so many ranges for different types of firearms plus an RV park that you don't even realize you have to drive about half a mile up a hill to get to your destination. We parked, grab our guns and gear and headed in. We arrived at around 10 am and at this time the temperature was about 99 degrees, but the inside of the building where you sign up was nice and cold. Upon entering I notice the extremely cheap gear, accessories, snacks, drinks(water, tea, Gatorade, etc.) and targets. Snacks and drink were $1.00 and they had target below $1.00! Not to mention its only 9$ per person to shoot, no taxes! After being overwhelmed by the prices I turned my attention to the young ladies behind the counter which my lady had already started to engage a conversation with. Not only were these women pleasant to talk to but they were also pleasant to look at. I mean pleasant by not like the typical gun range girl you see in Las Vegas, you know the ones that look underage, not very smart and the only reason you know they are of age is because of the breast, lip and butt job they had done. Not these ladies, these women were attractive with great personalities. Next, we were directed to watch a video on gun safety, which I read in a few reviews was between 8-10 minutes long, wrong, I think we in there like 12 minutes, but we watched the video twice lol. After watching the video they give you a card, offer targets and send you on your way to the action outside. When you exit outside you reach a large podium area with a guy sitting up there like the Wizard of Oz... the Wizards name is Corey and he's more like the Rock Star of Oz. Cool, informative and patient. To the left, you had the handguns range and to the right, you had the rifle range. You can use both handguns and rifles on both, the only difference is the rifle range goes out to 250 yards and the handgun range not as far. We had both rifles and handguns and didn't know which side to go to, I was eager to shoot my AR-15 since I had never shot it outdoors at long range before. Corey suggested we go to the rifle side first being that the wait for the rifle side can be long and get longer throughout the day, and then later if we wanted to we could go to the handguns side. We choose the rifle side and glad we did because during our time there we noticed more people were coming than leaving. My lady and I had a ball! Our first range officer was an older gentleman by the name of John James. This guy was awesome! During a "cease fire" this range has precautions that every shooter must take, it's about four steps, but it's only to ensure the safety of everyone. You may forget a step(like I did), but the R.O. not only advise me on what I did wrong but he praised me on what I did right, all while having a great sense of humor. By the end of our four-hour session, I was nailing every step. The next Range Officer to show up was a younger fellow by the name of Joey, and by looking at him I could see this was the evil R.O. that I read about... and I was WRONG! Joey was awesome and I really enjoyed talking to him. It was so hot I had gone through my gallon of water and the little I had left had become hot, but they have a huge cooler outside with ice water... its tap water, but when it's 106 degrees outside it taste like holy water. The area is covered, shaded and the only time you get hit by the Sun is when you walk to and from your target. Once again, my lady and I were having a great time! It's a people place! By the time we left the temperature had reached about 106 and even though we could've stayed there all day(literally, no time limit) we decided to save some ammo for another day. I must say this THE go to range. The only downside is now when I go to other ranges it's boring and claustrophobic. My lady and I have even considered moving closer to CCSC.
