  • I got a terrible haircut at Orange Olive, from Ella, on Saturday. I don't understand the good reviews that this salon here has, or Ella in particular. I feel like I spent $50 on a shoulder length bowl cut. She cut it all straight across. She added a few layers, but she did nothing to make it frame my face or have any structure whatsoever. To be fair, I did not give her too much guidance, as this place had such good reviews I thought she should have been able to judge by my face structure and little guidance and come up with something at least better than this. I did point out that there is a little section of my hair which has more trouble growing. My previous stylist (in Houston or I would have never gone to someone new) gave me some bangs and face framing which did a great job of remedying the situation. Ella barely listened to this concern of mine, even though I told her twice about it, and did nothing to rectify it. She did say that it would look great with some beachy waves, but frankly I don't have the time to put in the effort to create beach waves every morning before work. The direction I gave her was to cut off the crap at the bottom that was starting to split end and make it kinda fun and cute to wear to work with some fun layers. She asked me if I had any pictures or anything. I did not, and asked her to just come up with something that would go within those general guidelines. She initially suggested poorly that I do something like shorter in the back with more length in the front. This was a terrible suggestion. I do not have the face structure for something like that. Plus I have long bangs left over from my former hair cut so to make that work, it would have just been funky or cut too short. That is how we went with a straight cut which seems to have no layers at all. It really is a shoulder length bowl cut. Then, she blow dried it straight but did nothing more to style it. Also, my hair is naturally pretty curly and it's grown out maybe 0.5 cm since my last keratin treatment so it dries kinda straight out. After her poor blow drying, my hair kind of had this helmet appearance to it. I had to restyle it when I got home so that it looked decent to go out in public. I would go somewhere else to fix it, but she cut off three inches, so going somewhere else and having them re-cut it would make my hair WAY too short. I'm EXTREMELY disappointed. I will definitely not be going back, and I suggest everyone just stay away. At this point, I feel like I should probably just fly back to Houston every time I need a cut. Probably worth it. The salon itself was pretty cute though? So at least the ambiance was relatively okay.
