  • I've been taking my sons to John for years at his previous shop in Anthem. When he closed his Anthem shop and opened The Burly Barber in Tempe, I did not plan to make the long drive to Tempe just for boys' cuts. I figured I would just take my sons anywhere because a haircut is a haircut, right? Wrong!! After a fateful first visit to another barber, I had to text John and Jess in a panic to ask if there was anything they could do to fix what the other "barber" had done. They responded right away and got us right in at a time that was convenient for us. While John repaired the disaster, he mentioned that he and Jess had looked at the photos I had texted in order to come up with a plan of action. That impressed me, as I had only included the photos to ascertain whether anything COULD be done to fix the damage. I thought maybe John would glance at them and decide whether he could help us... I did not expect him to take the time to figure out the best solution before we even arrived! John worked his magic and when we left my son felt great about his haircut. John is extremely knowledgeable about his craft, and it shows in everything he does. He listens to what his clients want, and he knows (and will tell you) when something won't look good. He and Jess have fun personalities, so there is always great conversation in the shop. We won't make the mistake of going anywhere else again - John is worth the drive! If you're lucky enough to live close, do yourself a favor and visit The Burly Barber.
