| - While in Toronto we came here to check out wedding bands. I'm no jewelry pro (the only jewelry I own is an engagement ring) and so I figured that a jeweler, of all people, would be good at recommending a complimentary wedding band and offer other advice. After stopping by Peoples Jewellers, the only thing I was more educated about was that I will not be purchasing jewelry from them.
I entered the store and although I was not dolled up, I looked totally presentable - not like some bum on the street or anything. There were a few people manning the desks but no indication on how you could be helped by someone. I saw one employee who wasn't helping customers but was instead doing inventory, so I asked her where to go. Her response: "I can't help you." Wow, helpful.
So I continue to wait and wait by one of the jewelry areas and after about 20 minutes finally get helped. I explain what we're looking for... wedding band, nothing too fancy, that will compliment a plain ring. They pull out some plain bands that are maybe a ring size four. The lady had no knowledge about the various materials they make their rings out of (which was important because of metal allergies), no advice about jewelry, and the only thing she did was point at some bands in a glass case.
I was completely taken aback by the sheer lack of customer service. I mean, they mark up anything wedding-related like crazy, but can't even point you in the right direction? Sorry, Peoples. Thanks but no thanks.
