| - I have never been to North Carolina before and when the opportunity presented itself to visit one of the barbeque staples in America, I could not resist. After speaking with a few locals on where the best barbeque was, Midwood Smokehouse was always mentioned. On a peaceful Labor Day afternoon, I called an Uber and directed my driver to this location.
After entering the premises, I was quickly greeted and offered the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. I chose indoor seating given that it was going to rain. My waitress came up to me within a few minutes and asked what I wanted to drink. I settled on the sweet tea, one of the most sought after beverages in the South. I large cup of ice cold sweet tea was brought to my table, and I told. the waitress that I decided on the Well-Fed Combination plate, complete with beef brisket, hickory sausage, ribs, hushpuppies , Carolina chopped pork, and bacon wrapped jalepenos. Unfortunately, they did not have ribs today, so they gave me the option of chicken or doubling up on another meat entrée. Figuring that I should try all the meats, I opted for chopped chicken bbq.
I was dining alone so I spent a few minutes on my phone enjoying sips of the sweet, sugary iced tea. However, within a good seven minutes, my large whopping order presented itself in front of me. The waitress asked if it was my first time and proceeded to explain the different sauces. I was barely listening as I was salivating over the piles of meat. I dug in and fell in love with the brisket. They gave me a mix of both lean and fatty brisket and the combination of both, literally melting in my mouth, was enough for me to keep eating more. No sauces were required for the brisket. The hickory smoked sausage was perfectly grilled with that snap you would expect with any perfectly smoked sausage casing. The pork and chicken were equally tender, but the beef brisket was the star of the meal. All the meats were a wonderful pair to the collard greens, bacon wrapped jalepenos, and hush puppies.
I'm said to say that I am only in North Carolina for a month, but I will definitely be back for brisket!
