  • This is the second time my boyfriend and I have been to this comedy club and it is quite awesome. Both times the local talent was better than the headliner. However, tonight's headliner was so wasted, awkward, and uncomfortable that I was on the edge of my seat just to see how much more awkward his act could become. At one point in his act he decided to start making fun of a group of Canadian guys sitting directly in front of us. After a lame joke about how much Canada sucks, one of the guys mentioned something about it being funny. The comedian was too wasted apparently to realize the comment was not meant to be disrespectful, and stared the guys down asking, "Did you guys just say the joke wasn't funny?" They immediately replied "no" but the comedian continued to stare them down, making for a very awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere for all. It never recovered after that, and continued to go downhill. The comedian chose to keep picking on the Canadians for some reason, and soon the whole act became an awkward series of stare-downs and silence. After a while, the Canadians began to make comments after each of the jokes. While I don't condone their behavior during this portion, I can't really blame them for lashing back either. The evening coalesced with the Canadians walking out and the comedian resorting to Apache Junction inbred hick jokes (which I am quite tired of at this point and have never found to be true being a resident of Apache Junction myself) before finally ending his set seething in anger. The best part of his set was when a random girl from the audience got up on stage and gave him a lap dance. He joked that he wanted her to give him a lap dance for the remainder of his act. She probably should have and avoided the meltdown that occurred immediately afterward. All of this being said, the Italian guy and another guy before him talking about gangsters converting to Mormonism were exceptional and quite hilarious. Even the headliner was so bad it was like a train wreck that you want to tear your eyes away from but just can't. I was highly entertained on all accounts. The owner offered everyone free tickets as he was out for a portion of the act and didn't realize what had happened. We did not take him up on it as we were very entertained in one fashion or another throughout the entire event. We will definitely be back, and I would recommend this place to anyone. There are some real local gems that perform here. The food is also pretty good, served from the adjoining Mexican restaurant Papi Chulos.
