| - I don't know what all the 2 star ratings are about...this isn't the downtown Hilton. For $129 you get a decent room and an average breakfast. Yes the bathrooms are a bit dated and show signs of abuse, and many areas need repainted in the building. As is common to cheaper mid-range hotels in a region fuelled by industry workers, the hallway reeked of cigarettes in the late evening when I got to my room. The room itself was fine, no smells, everything clean and in order. Good comfy beds, decent heating/cooling, quiet and comfortable. I really liked that the room had a microwave, that was unexpected. If I had to stay here more than a day I could totally live off the food from T&T Supermarket, which is walking distance away at Pacific Centre Mall. Nice.
But as it was included I felt obligated to eat the hotel breakfast, that and my meeting started at 8 a.m. Breakfast buffet was nothing exciting, decent appearance and selection. Rather average tasting, you know the eggs and sausages are never great at these places, but I'm not a lover of western breakfast foods anyhow. There was both pork and beef sausages, but I found the latter too greasy to eat. There was some also some strangely crispy bacon, pre-bacon bit dry it was so crumbly, so I flaked it into my fairly cheese-less cheese omelet. If you don't like it, McD's is in walking distance.
Conference service was pretty good, actually better than expected - room temperature was consistent, no sound problems, good lighting, chairs fine and room clean. Water was refreshed frequently, used dishes tidied quickly, plenty of food at lunch, which is good because I'm usually at the end of the line chatting! Lunch buffet was average with a good selection of sandwiches, average soup and usual squares/cookies. Starbucks coffee & tea, medium coffee cups instead of those stupid teacups - again average but a-OK.
The staff throughout the facility were very friendly, even at 7 in the morning at a buffet breakfast. Don't forget to leave a tip!
I'm not sure how long this hotel has been a Coast, but in my experience, it's a pretty typical Coast. There are badly needed upgrades happening, lots of painting to be done, but the whole Centre is totally acceptable. And affordable for the convenience of staying in the same place as your early a.m. conference, having breakfast included, free wi-Fi and free parking. Try getting that downtown! $40 minimum upcharge, guaranteed. And I can get on the highway in minutes to head back to Edmonton without having to sit in downtown traffic after having to sit all day. Ditto if you're headed for the airport. Not bad at all!
