| - If you're looking for great tasting Mexican-style food beyond the traditional favorites, Cantina 1511 is the place! Most of their entrees are based on traditional Mexican dishes rather than the "Americanized Mexican" food found at most restaurants.
If you get nothing else, a must-have is their Five Cheese Queso Fundido. It will change your perspective on "cheese dip." The mix of 5 cheeses - some imported from Mexico - along with the caramelized onions and mild smoky poblano peppers in the dip really takes it to another level. Served with fresh warm nachos, it makes for a fantastic start to your meal.
My two favorite entrees are the Carne Azteca - marinated Flank Steak with garlic lime papas bravas, avocado tomatillo salsa and grilled red onion confit. Then there's the Slow-Cooked Short Rib In Negra Modelo - a tender short rib slow-cooked in Mexican Vienna lager with portobello mushrooms, white onions and arbol chiles on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes and a side of white beans. It will knock your socks off!
On our last trip, my wife got a Ground Beef Burrito. This thing was the size of a shoe and was stuffed with seasoned gound beef, charro beans, vegetable rice and topped with both Ranchero sauce and queso sauce. It was served with guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and a lettuce and tortilla slaw. This ain't Taco Bell, folks. The next time you crave honest, delicious Mexican, get your fix at Cantina 1511. You won't be disappointed!
