  • I've been driving by the Mermaid Cafe for years, always meaning to stop in. Well today I was coaxed over to the near east side of Madison for a little Sunday Brunch and political banter. Plus, I had a hankering for Pancakes and I figured if Mermaid was worth it's salt, they would have Pancakes. Pancakes they had... Fantastic pancakes, served with nice blackberry compote, butter, whipped cream, and warm syrup. I also had the ISIS breakfast sandwich - scrabbled eggs, cheddar, avocado, and sort of magical coconut curry sauce. Add in the very serviceable latte and I was very satisfied. I'll be back. You should try out this little locals' oasis. It's tucked Into the Schenk's Corners Neighborhood. The food is high quality - it's a very relaxed atmosphere where you order at the counter and the food makes it's way to your table.
