  • I want to start my review by listing all the great things about Dr. Couvaras, and then share my personal experience for those who want to continue reading more. He is always researching his industry...finding new procedures and ideas. He makes everything sound so doable! Going in for your first appointment is soooo nerve wrecking!! After you talk to him you feel so much more at ease. It feels so good to leave the appointment with hope when you go in with so much doubt! He explains everything...always. He never talks to you like you are stupid and won't understand what he is doing to your body. He is honest and upfront about everything. IVF Is not his go to plan! He has many other options and ways to try first. He listens to your concerns and desires. He is friendly & truly cares about his patients. Our Story (shortened quite a bit!! :)) We went to Dr. Couvaras for the firs time about 5 years ago or so. He was referred to me by my cousin (who got pregnant without IVF). I knew instantly he was the doctor for me. I knew if he couldn't get me pregnant, no one could. I had not seen and still have not seen another RE. We had a few small problems, but overall fell in the the classification of unexplained infertility. After attempting to get pregnant without IVF, we finally had to take that route. We had purchased his IVF Cost Containment Plan (best way to go if you have to do IVF!) With that plan, you do 3 fresh IVF cycles in one year. We had 2 unsuccessful IVF procedures. Literally a week before I was to meet with him to start our third and final IVF procedure, my husband was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (Kidney Failure) He had lost one kidney at the age of 5 and literally out of the blue, he was given 2 months to live without dialysis. Of course, we were devastated and scared of the unknown and changes coming in our lives. I called Dr. Couvaras' secretary to tell them what had happened and that I wouldn't be in that following week. Being on dialysis isn't the healthiest way to live, nor is it convienent. I was afraid of how it would possibly affect my husband's body. I am also the same blood type of my husband, so I knew if I was his match for a kidney, I would give him one of mine. Also, this stress wasn't something I wanted to deal with AND try to get pregnant at the same time! That would be a lot to take on. A few months later, after things settled down, I called and spoke with Dr. Couvaras about my concerns and willingness to give my husband one of my kidneys so he could get off dialysis. Without even thinking Dr. Couvaras told us to not worry about the 1 year time frame. He told us to take our time, get my husband his transplant and call him when we were ready to do this last IVF. He also reassured me if I gave my husband a kidney, I could carry a baby without any problems. I was amazed at his quick decision that he cared enough to let us figure out my husbands health even though we were fast approaching our year mark. He didn't even think twice and it truly touched my heart. I was so grateful! The following fall, we were lucky enough to have my amazing little sister match and donate one of her kidneys to my husband. As soon as we had a successful transplant, I met with Dr. Couvaras. We gave my husbands kidney a few months to "settle in" and then we were on for our final IVF. When I met with him again and we discussed what we would do this time, I was so surprised and thrilled to know that within the past year he had 3 new procedures to do with our IVF! I couldn't believe so much had changed in that short time! Like I said, he is always looking into new procedures and advances in his field! This time we got pregnant!! I couldn't believe it. I had a bit of a rough first 12 week with many scares that I was miscarrying and Dr. Couvaras was there every step of the way as I called, with what was probably silly questions, until I was transferred to my OB. I drove 3 hours, one way, to Dr. Couvaras' office for every appointment (which during IVF was every other day for about a week or so). I had options to go to other RE's 1.5-2 hours away. He was 100% worth the drive & time it took me. He truly is the best in the business and I'm eternally grateful for my little baby girl that I would not have without him.
