| - I love gastropubs. I'm a sucker for fancy bar food. And Angels Trumpet serves just that.
Usually, when I visit states and cities, that's the search word I use on Yelp "gastropub" I chanced upon Angels and further review of their patron photos and menu, I realized they had poutine -- and it looked legitimate too! Fries, gravy and most importantly, cheese curds.
We were staying in downtown and had no inkling Angels was for the most part, on campus, a hangout for college students, nearly 2 miles away. We already felt old-ish complaining about the seemingly endless walk, well, after stepping inside, in the company of all the hipster kids, we felt even more ancient haha.
The menu was interesting, though wasn't unusual for gastropub fare. We ordered a variety of things: chicken wings, poutine, a burger which had onion strings (forgot the name) and the churchill grilled cheese.
I won't go into detail into each entree because they were all just OK. The item I enjoyed the least, surprisingly, was the churchill. And of course, as expected for many hipster spots, NO regular ketchup. Well don't worry that didn't affect my review.
I really, I mean really enjoyed the poutine. It reminded me of my days on Montreal when I ate it literally, thrice a day.
If I ever returned to Arizona, I would come back for the poutine. Much more accessible than Montreal.
