  • I have had this place on my to do list for a long time since I had eaten at the Vandal and learned they get their bread from here. My girlfriend and I stopped over after breakfast and as soon as we entered a whole group of people followed us in! It gave the two of us a chance to see their offerings. The sell a lot of sourdough breads, long French baguettes, and a raisin walnut bread. They had challah today as well. I later learned that they make that particular bread on Thurs and Fri only. Challah is normally used for Jewish holidays and Sabbaths so I was glad to see it available here. It is a twisted bread and makes great bread for sandwiches. Their challahs were huge! The prices are taped to the interior glass just before you pay.As far as baked goods go they have giant sized cookies, along with various scones, muffins, and pastries. I noticed a single orange olive oil cake in the display so I knew I had to get that for my son. Prices are extremely reasonable for the most part. They also have small sandwiches and a mini quiche for sale. When it was our turn I ended up with the orange cake,a mini quiche, a scone and then I saw a normal size bread loaf sitting on the tray between the large breads. I asked about it and learned that it was a densely baked rye bread just hot off the oven. It cost $7.00. The reason it was that much was because it was densely baked but they offered to sell me half of it. I bought that as well and figured I would eat it when I got home. The store has a wide table where you can stand and eat if you prefer but most people usually take out. When I got home I broke into the bread and tried a small piece of the scone. They were both very good and I could tell when I used my bread knife to cut a slice how dense it was. It tasted that way too! The quiche I will save for tomorrow's lunch but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. This bakery is truly outstanding and I definitely plan to return here in the future to try other breads as well as their other pastries.
