  • If you don't have a grill in your own backyard and are looking for a classic American 4th of July BBQ in the park kind of burger, The Chuckbox is the place for you. We finally visited this place after hearing about it from even before coming to Arizona. It is a bit of a legendary location in the local community. The atmosphere reminded me of a loud, crowded cafeteria, which is not my style for dining in. I found the ordering process to be unpleasant. You basically stand in a huge line and wait for the burgers to be cooked, which does take a few minutes. Meanwhile, the line interweaves with people who are placing orders, so everyone is in everyone's way. Then, once you receive your food, you wait another 5 or so minutes for someone to come to the register and cash you out. Ironically, while you wait with your ever-cooling food at the register, you are faced with a sign that explains how they only accept cash because it keeps the line moving fast... The burger itself was pretty good, but nothing unique or special. As I mentioned, it really makes you think of that classic American grilled burger. One thing that I liked was the condiments bar, which allows everyone to add their own extras to their plain burger. In particular, I noticed that the tomatoes, pickles, and jalapeƱos were all extremely fresh. It's hard to get a decent tomato at a Subway or a even a 20-star fancy restaurant, so I commend this place for serving such fresh toppings. In addition, I took a bite of a very tasty not-so-all-American garden burger, which tells me some of the non-traditional burgers may be worth trying.
