| - ****Maintenance will take weeks unless you make several visits/phone calls to the office. Yes weeks. I've never waited more than a day for regular service needs in previous apartments and I've lived in many. This place is somehow understaffed with 2-4 guys driving golf carts around on a daily basis. I have called the office about three separate issues. Every time I had to make a minimum of 3 additional calls in order to get the work done. One of those issues was simply fixing the garbage disposal because it wouldn't turn on and the sink wouldn't drain. When the guy finally came in to fix it two weeks after the first call...it took all of 10 minutes to repair. And for the record, they ask you if maintenance crews have permission to enter and then give you no timeline for their arrival. So you're expected to give them permission to enter your apartment at any time in the next few weeks? Are you kidding? I told them that they were required to call me on the day the work would get done and at that time I could give permission.
****The gym and pool were scheduled to be closed for renovations for 2 weeks. Not a huge deal. Except that it ended up being closed for over TWO MONTHS. And during that time, there was zero explanation or timeline given for when it would be re-opened. For all we knew, it was going to take 6 months. There was literally a sign on the gym door saying the gym would be open on 7/5/15....on 7/25/15. I know several people who relied on that 24 hour gym and were forced to get memberships at local gyms due to the closure. And when staff was talked to about this their response was, "well it's your decision to get a gym membership." True. It was also my decision to live in an apartment complex that offered a 24 hour gym.
****Building maintenance by vendors is often and early...go figure. I can't tell you how many times I've needed to get into my car and found it covered in plastic wrap by painters. And this entire week my building has had workers in, on and around it with loud metal ladders, painting machines with roaring motors and whatever tools are banging on the walls....promptly starting at 8am and not ending until after 2pm. Not all of us wake up that early. Although this week and part of last week I sure did. And yes...it's hot out and the morning is the best time for that type of work. But perhaps August is not the best month to schedule these guys? Maybe in February when it never gets this hot they could have started their work at a more reasonable hour? I will say that I was notified that work would be done on three specific days. However, the time of day was NOT specified, and so far those three days have turned into seven total weekdays...without notice. And the staff's response? "Vendors...what are you gonna do? The work needs to be done. There's just nothing that we can do about it."
****Fees are out of control here. If you have a cat and move into a new complex you can expect to pay EITHER an additional deposit, OR a fee. Not here. You will pay both. I was required to pay $590 just for my cat. $300 is the additional refundable deposit that I suspect will have deductions. The other $290 is theirs to keep. It's worth mentioning that the cat deposit exceeds the regular deposit everyone pays to simply live here.
A majority of these problems are maintenance related. And it is understandable that these things need to be done from time to time. But the lack of communication to notify residents of work that will greatly impact their lives, the lack of resolutions provided after deadlines have passed and residents are effected, and the COMPLETE lack of empathy and desire to help when confronted is deplorable.
