| - "In the middle of nowhere." That's one of the best ways to describe this cafe if you live anywhere outside the neighbourhood. Seriously, you are surrounded by one old building, one park and a range of residential housing.
Not to mention Joes used to be a convenience store called OHM Variety before and it still shows. You see, the place still seems like 'work in progress' to me plus there is a lack of seating and overall furniture.
Some (subjectively) okay art hangs off the white walls and somehow I get the vibe this venue is the owner's baby, which is a good thing. You know, like he/she really wanted to open this cafe since both people working here seemed to really be on the same page. Married? They looked it. But who knows? The point is, you can see they are working on it.
As mentioned, you will notice that "still under construction" feeling since the basement looks like a full apartment so when you go to the washroom, you will notice the blocked path to a fully working kitchen. Plus the washroom itself has a bathtub in it with light fixtures to match . It is weird to see this if you happen to go to cafes much.
Our lattes where good and so were the teas. Nothing special however, don't get me wrong, they were good but not stellar, otherwise I would take the time to get more detailed, but no.
Would I come back? No. Mostly because I am not a local although it was nice to discover the place thanks to the Indie Coffee Passport. Plus I can totally see people coming here for a quiet latte and seating (if there is seating) next to the window ledge for some (if not deserted) people watching.
However if you desire a more artsy cafe vibe, then you would have to go to Balluchon Raymond down the street.
