I took my out of town friends here this past Friday for a late dinner and to have a couple drinks since Fathead's can be seen as a popular Pittsburgh landmark.
Since we were a party of 7, I decided to call ahead of time to make a reservation but they do not accept reservations via phone. Instead I was instructed to use the app No Wait, however the app does not let you make reservations for that amount so I had to call back and discuss this with the hostess. It was not handled until we were actually in the restaurant, but we actually ended up only waiting about 20-30 minutes to be seated.
We grabbed drinks from the bar while we waited. They have a great selection of beer that is not only their own, but also various kinds from other breweries. I had the ever so popular Bumbleberry beer and it was crisp and refreshing. The blueberries in the beer were a nice added touch!
Our waitress was polite, attentive, friendly, and prompt. I have zero complaints about the service!
I ordered the Bumbleberry Chicken Salad and it was absolutely delicious. The bed of arugula was a rather large serving underneath a nice amount of chicken, blueberries, and goat cheese. The dressing was unique. It had a yogurt consistency with hints of blueberry and poppyseed in it. Very good!
A $20 price tag was appropriate for a salad and beer in the heart of the Southside.
All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and everyone enjoyed themselves. The only reason for a 4/5 opposed to a 5/5 was due to the reservation fiasco in the beginning. For a large and busy restaurant I feel like reservations are a must for large parties and it was not the easiest task here.
