  • Last month, I found myself heading to the emergency room when I felt an impending doom! I was having arrhythmias and major palpitations. I dread going to UMC's ER because at times, it feels like about a fourth of the valley's population hangs out at UMC at any given day! My insurance is from UMC and by far, it's the best insurance I've ever had. UMC's ER isn't known for providing a pleasant experience. It ranges from very long wait times to be seen by a doctor to having not so great moments with staff members. Many people don't understand how "triage" works. If they do, then they should stop complaining. If you present a life threatening event, then that's your golden ticket! You will bypass everyone and hope for the best treatment you can ever receive. The ER is not the place for mild coughs and sniffles! Since my situation needed attention more than others, I was seen by the ER doctor after an hour and a half. From there, it was like a domino effect. Behind those doors is where all the magic happens! Some of the most hardworking people work in the medical field. They not only save people's lives, but they also have to endure the public. The standard procedures were completed for my case, such as blood draws, EKGs, ultrasound and echocardiogram. I went from an observation room for three hours and to full blown admission for two nights. They were monitoring me for a potential atrial fibrillation (AFib). I can't emphasize enough how phenomenal UMC's medical team is! In the short time I was there, I was seen by five amazing physicians and they were all genuinely caring. The nurse and the rest of the staff on the floor were excellent! The medical care I received were beyond my expectations! My newly diagnosed medical condition is definitely a game changer. It's the scariest experience I had ever encountered in my lifetime.
