| - My husband and I ate at Lulu for a Sunday brunch. We met my aunt, uncle, and their 10-month-old baby. Lulu is right down the street from Zada Jane's, which we love. Both restaurants are good, and have very different vibes.
Lulu looks like it's in someone's home. The parking is limited (although that seems to be a theme in Plaza Midwood, from the few times I've visited Charlotte). The décor is very pretty and classic and cozy. It was a little louder than I would have guessed for such a small place, but that ended up working out well since we were with a baby. The baby wasn't particularly loud, but we never once worried about him disturbing the other diners because of the general noise level.
The food was really tasty. I ordered the crème brulee French toast, which I got with sausage patties (mmm!). The portion of French toast was huge! I had originally considered ordering a side of potatoes or something, because I was starving, but I couldn't finish more than half of what was on my plate, so I'm glad I didn't! As far as what made it "crème brulee" I'm not entirely sure. I expected more caramelization or something. It was delicious, but seemed just like French bread French toast with some chopped apples on top, and served with a sweet syrup (maybe that was the crème brulee part?). Still good, but I wish I had chosen one of the more savory entrees.
My husband ordered the county eggs Benedict, which was very nicely done.
My only complaint is that I wish they had been a little quicker about taking our orders and bringing the checks (they forgot to split, even though I asked them to in advance and it's not like our party was that big). Maybe they were trying to give us plenty of leisure time, which is nice, but we were really hungry (as I said) and having a baby who was missing his nap meant that the checks a little quicker would have been ideal.
Regardless, Lulu was excellent and I will definitely visit again.
