  • The staff here are awful and make you feel like some sort of vagrant. I hadn't visited the AGO since a child and was looking forward to returning but I have no desire to return after my last experience. Staff: My initial experience was with the cashier which was awkward but not offensive. There was a lot of awkward silences and staring as if she was waiting for us to make the next move, even after we had asked a question. After entering and admiring some of the art pieces, I had found it quite chilly so I decided to put on my sweater. I continued to look at the art and even moved onto the next room but I had been feeling a presence behind me. I turned around and realized it was one of the staff members who was following me and I decided to ask if there's something I can do for them. They then proceeded to tell me that I had ALMOST touched one of the pieces while I was putting on my sweater a good 10 minutes beforehand. This was quite enraging because I made sure to step away from the piece before putting on my sweater. But even if I had been close I didn't touch it by any means. In addition, I felt like I had been some petty criminal having this man follow me for about 10 minutes and having only decided to say something when I had confronted him as to why he was following me. And I don't know what he was expecting to happen, as if I was going to constantly take off and put on my sweater and was a danger to the art pieces. Had he given me a warning at the time I had put on my sweater then it could've been a lot less rage inducing (and mind you, I'm not even one to get angry; I'm usually embarrassed and quite apologetic). At this point I had been at the AGO a merely 15 or 20 minutes and I was over this place and I only stayed to look at the art and never return. Collection: I will say that they have a nice and large collection but after being to other galleries in Europe and the US, this one lacked information for me. They suggest you go join a tour or something but they don't seem to offer anything for self guiding. But I did hear a few of the tour guides and will say they did an excellent job. Art's pretty good, but I will not want to come back.
