We walked in for Sunday brunch and were seated in less time than it takes to drink a glass of water (served by the friendly bartender). The enthusiastic waiter got our drinks quickly, and we were off to an excellent start. I think you can tell a lot about the quality of a restaurant by its Bloody Marys, and the one ordered by my sister was delicious (it had fresh dill in it -- inspired!). But what got my attention immediately was that the unsweetened iced tea was just as delicious. It's just water and tea leaves! Why doesn't mine taste flowery and very gently tannic? I forgot to ask what kind of tea they use, but it tastes fantastic. This was a good harbinger, and the rest of the meal was just as satisfying. We got pommes frites for the table, a decision I recommend. Three of us had vegetable frittatas, which were tasty if maybe just a little more virtuous than necessary, and one had crabcakes with braised kale. The kale was the best thing on the table -- smoky but bright with tomato sweetness and acidity. Yum. We felt we had some indulgence coming to us after our fritattas, so we got the doughnut holes with cherry and chocolate sauces. Life was then complete. If I lived in this lovely neighborhood, I would come here all the time.
